Arrival in Kendari, in the Sulawesi’s southeast peninsula, where the tour begins Night in Kendari

Full day near Kendari, mostly devoted to finding the striking Booted Macaque but also the undescribed Tarsier that lives in this area. Night in Kendari

We have a full extra day in Kendari in case the macaques play hard to get. Other exciting possibilities for today are a visit to a huge bat cave that is home to species like Peleng Roundleaf Bat and another night walk.

Morning flight to Luwuk. Activities in Luwuk will include searching for for Tonkean Macaque in the day and the undescribed "Tompotika Tarsier" at night.

Charter boat to Peleng, in the Banggai archipelago, where we will stay two nights. Our main goals here will be Sulawesi Lowland Bear Cuscus and two endemics: the pretty Peleng Cuscus and the Peleng Tarsier. We can also expect a large array of bats and rats.

Full day in Peleng.

We will leave the island early in the morning and drive to Bunta, where a boat will take us to Malenge, home of the Togian Babirusa, Tonkean Macaque and the Niemitz's Tarsier. We will stay two nights in a lovely dive resort on the beach. There will also be time to enjoy swimming in the crystal clear and wonderfully warm ocean!

Full day in Malenge

We will take our last boat trip of the tour to get back to the mainland, where we will jump in the cars and drive to Lore Lindu mountain, our base for the next three nights.

We will explore Lore Lindu at length, where we have the chance of finding some of the rarest mammals of the trip, like the Pygmy Tarsier and Mountain Bear Cuscus, plus commoner species like Sulawesi Bear Cuscus and, Dian's Tarsier. Nights at a comfortable guest house in Sedoa

Today we have one of the longest drives of the tour to the realm of one of the least known tarsiers of Sulawesi, Wallace's Tarsier. Night in Baluka

We have an extra full day to explore the area, with chances to bump into Heck's Macaque as well as the tarsier. Night in Baluka

Long drive to Mamuju where we will stay the night. After dark, we will visit a nearby forest in our quest to see yet another tarsier: the Lariang Tarsier. Night near Mamuju

We have an optional extra day in case we need it but if not, we will start the drive to the south. Night in Rammang Rammang

Here, we have the chance to see the last two primates of the tour: Makassar Tarsier and Moor Macaque. At night, we will drive to Makassar, where we will stay overnight. Night in Makassar in a very comfortable hotel.

Information about the tour
This tour is an adventure that offers a unique chance to contribute to both conservation and science. We will be surveying areas where very little biological research has been undertaken and there is every chance we will come across species that have been lost or are new – to science. We will spend long hours each night searching for mammals in some of the best areas of forest left on the island, and will visit some spectacular bat caves during our days.
