Mammal watching tours to New Guinea, Indonesia and beyond
Mammalia runs small-group mammal watching tours designed by mammal watchers, for mammal watchers. We focus on the world’s most exciting and least visited mammal destinations, using long night walks, thermal scopes and expert local knowledge to find species that most wildlife tours never see.
Our founder, Carlos Bocos, has spent years guiding naturalists and photographers across Indonesia and New Guinea. He led the first dedicated group mammal watching tour to West Papua and the first organized mammal watching tour to Papua New Guinea, finding tree kangaroos, the critically endangered Western Long-beaked Echidna, cuscuses, ringtail possums and even species new to science. In 2026 he received the Services to Mammalwatching award from the mammalwatching.com community.
Every tour is limited to a handful of participants, so everyone gets the best views and photos. Upcoming departures include our Papua New Guinea mammal tour (May–June 2027, with helicopter access to remote mountain forests) and our Yunnan mammal tour in China, targeting Yunnan snub-nosed monkey, Skywalker gibbon and red panda.
