Carlos Bocos began his professional wildlife watching career as a birding guide in his native Spain before moving to Indonesia in 2015  where he spent 7 years guiding tours around every corner of Indonesia and elsewhere in Asia. During the COVID19 pandemic he began getting more serious about mammalwatching, applying his birding skills to search for mammals in Indonesia. He very quickly discovered he had a talent for finding mammals and that there were a lot to be found! For the past few years he has run groundbreaking mammalwatching trips to West Papua, Sulawesi and Papua New Guinea  that have benefited from his detailed knowledge of the region – and its mammals – as well as his large network of local friends and guides. He has already discovered several species new to science and coauthored academic papers with leading mammalogists. Carlos and James Lowen wrote the 2025 field guide to The Mammals of Iberia.
